We have influenced national and international standards, among others, through the launch of standard ISO 14008:2019 Monetary valuation of environmental impacts and related environmental aspects. Initiated by the Swedish Life Cycle Center and its partners it has been developed in collaboration with three research projects within the center and led by Bengt Steen, professor emeritus Chalmers University of Technology. Read more about this at SIS (Swedish Standard institute) webpage.
The Swedish platform for the life cycle perspective has made it possible to reach out to a wider community and increased our network to over 1600 professionals throught activities such as in webinars, seminars and newsletters. Some of those activities are: Hur miljövänliga är elfordon? Kan ett livscykelperspektiv ge oss svar? (Almedalen-seminar), Ny standard för redovisning av miljökostnader – så vägleder ISO 14008 (Co-arrangement with SIS and NMC), Sustainable and Circular Public Procurement (webinar), Livscykelperspektivet som underlag för beslutsfattande i näringsliv (Seminar for Government agencies hosted by Swedish Energy Agency).
Knowledge-enhancing activities such as the two-day course for professionals in Applied life cycle thinking educated 24 new life cycle advocators during the fall and the course got 9 out of 10 in the course evaluation.
Sweco and Scania joined the center and are strengtening the national collaboration within the life cycle field, which is important to reach our mission “Credible and applied life cycle thinking globally”.
4 ongoing research projects within Swedish Life Cycle Center gathers researchers and practitioners from 37 organizations: Methods for modeling of recycling in LCA, Nature capital and value creation, Simplification of environmental scope declarations and Social life cycle assessment from a user perspective.
Among many other activites that are happening next year the 7th Social LCA conference: Impacts, Interests, Interactions are being planned in this now. The conference is co-arranged by KTH- Royal Institute of Technology and Chalmers University of Technology and will be held on the campus of Chalmers and is hosted in collaboration with the Swedish Life Cycle Center.
