Life Cycle Talks: Why do we need a life cycle perspective on negative emissions? With Cecilia Sundberg
Welcome to Life Cycle Talks! A series of talks presenting the research front to keep you up to date with the science and application of the life cycle perspective. Our next guest is Cecilia Sundberg, Associate Professor in Bioenergy systems at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU.
She will talk about the role of negative emissions in climate change mitigation and the methods for achieving negative emissions. The focus will be on methods that use plants to take up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. She will explain how a life cycle perspective matters for assessing the environmental impacts of negative emission technologies.
“There is a growing interest in methods that can remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. We need life cycle assessment to know how to design and implement these methods in ways that provide benefits and not just shift emissions from one place to another.”

Cecilia Sundberg is Associate Professor at the Swedish University of Agricultural University in Uppsala and her research addresses systems analysis of bioresources, specifically life cycle assessment of biochar and bioenergy systems with carbon dioxide removal.
