Life Cycle Talks: How to assess the environmental performance of emerging batteries?
Place: Online on Zoom
Price: Free of charge
For whom: Public
Welcome to Life Cycle Talks! A series of talks presenting the research front to keep you up to date with the science and application of the life cycle perspective. Our next guest is Shan Zhang, PhD candidate at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. She will discuss how to assess the environmental performance of emerging batteries using the life cycle assessment approach.
Specifically, she will address challenges related to missing data on battery technology (i.e. battery composition and energy density), novel battery materials, and how to account for potential future changes in the background system.
Presenter
Shan Zhang is a PhD candidate in the Department of Energy and Technology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Her research focuses on assessing the environmental impacts of emerging batteries using life cycle assessment (LCA) and prospective LCA. Specifically, Shan analyzes the emerging battery system at a future point in time when they have reached their highest technology reediness level. The battery systems she has studied include organic batteries, sodium-ion batteries, all-solid-state batteries, and organic flow batteries.
