New publication on Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment

The UNEP/SETAC life cycle initiative has recently launched the publication: Towards a Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment – Making informed choices on products. CPM researcher Jutta Hildenbrant at Chalmers Environmental Systems Analysis is one of the authors. Seminar: openLCA and current development in software and data formats

The seminar will present current status and developments of LCA software, data, and data formats. Some of the points will be made using openLCA, an open source LCA software developed by GreenDeltaTC since 2006, with increased use, worldwide, and the openLCA format converter, released in 2006 for the first time. After the initial presentation, participants will be invited to join the discussion on how this area can be developed further.

The seminar is a joint arrangement of CPM Swedish life cycle center and Chalmers ESA.

Lunch Seminar: Life Cycle Perspective in research

We invite researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg for a lunch seminar April 20, 11.30-13.00. This lunch will be held at GMV. The lunch is a joint arrangement between GMV and CPM Swedish Life Cycle Center. The meeting is held in Swedish or English depending on the participants’ language skills.

Sustainable Solutions – Sustanability Day 2012

CPM was one of 900 participats on Sustaniability Day 2012 in Stockholm. The day highlighted sustainable solutions and we had the opportunity to listen to practical examples on business solutions.

IKEA held a quick presentation about their packaging recycling strategy 2015, all their package will be recycled by 100%. ÅF held a presentation about ecodesign – future product development, think function, the products’ life cycles, customer requirements and make deliberate choices.

Maria Ågren, Director Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, lifted five good examples on Swedish solutions and how to make it happen in reality.

The first keynote speaker, Tensie Whelan president Rainforest Alliance, highlighted the holistic management and said “industry success requires engagement of the entire supply chain”, you have to involve all players in the supply chain to find new solutions.

Mark Bountros, csr director KREAB and the second keynote speaker, presented how to make a powerful brand. A good brand needs to inspire, educate, engage and entertain and he gave us some examples. He also gave us three important sentences to think on; Do what you say! Say what you do! and Be who you are!

As in Gothenburg on Sustainability Day –west, the last speaker was Göran Carlstedt who talked about sustainable leadership. The industry has to go from a linear thinking to a circular thinking and use the nature to find solutions. Göran gave some inspiring examples of leadership, Countries which had created goals without knowing how to reach them (e.g. England and Germany). Göran wanted to give us his view about how to create a sustainable future:

1. Determination – to find new solutions
2. Create the future together, commitment, meaningfulness
3. Go into actions, learning by doing
4. Have a systems perspective, cross-border
5. Be hopeful, see the impossible as possible

Inauguration of SKF-Chalmers University Technology Centre for Sustainability (UTC)

March 27, an inauguration of SKF-Chalmers University Technology Centre for Sustainability (UTC) will take place. The center aims to deliver ground-breaking, industry-focused research on sustainability, a core area for both SKF and Chalmers. CPM will be there together with other invited guests.
